ELIGIBILITY FOR FEDERAL FINANCIAL AID

To receive financial aid from any federal student aid program, you must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Demonstrate financial need (except for some loan programs).
  • Have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Be enrolled as a regular student working toward a degree or certificate in an eligible, full-time program at Butler Tech.
  • Be a United States citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  • Have a valid social security number.
  • Certify that you will use federal student aid only for educational purposes.
  • Certify that you are not in default on a federal student loan and that you do not owe money on a federal student grant.
  • Comply with the Selective Service registration. If you are an 18 to 25-year-old-male and have not yet registered, you may do so by checking a box on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You also may register online at www.sss.gov.
  • Not currently be incarcerated in a federal or state penal institution.
  • Not have been convicted under federal or state law for the sale or possession of drugs for an offense that occurred while you were receiving federal student aid.
  • Meet satisfactory academic progress standards set by Butler Tech.
  • Students enrolled in Butler Tech programs of less than 900 clock hours and/or 30 weeks will not be eligible for maximum amounts of aid.

Applicants may start the federal financial aid process by completing the FAFSA online. However, only applicants who have received WorkKeys pre-testing results and have submitted an application for full-time enrollment with the $25 non-refundable fee may schedule a financial aid appointment with Butler Tech. After completing WorkKeys testing, applicants will receive program enrollment instructions and information to schedule a financial aid appointment with the Student Services Office.

TO APPLY

Step 1. Gather the documents required to complete the FAFSA. You do not need to wait for your WorkKeys score in order to complete the FAFSA online.

  • Tax forms (1040, 1040A, 1040EZ, etc) for the most recent tax year for you and your spouse. If you are not married, have no children, and are 25 years old or younger, you will need to report income for your parents as well as yourself.
  • Documentation of child support paid or received by you or a spouse.
  • Documentation of Social Security benefits received for all household members.
  • Documentation of any other income source in the household (public assistance cash benefits, investments, real estate income, etc.)

Step 2. If you apply online, request a PIN #.

Go to www.pin.ed.gov. Once you receive a PIN #, you can sign your FAFSA electronically. If a parental signature is required, a parent will also need to request a PIN.

Step 3. Complete a FAFSA.

You may file online or send in a paper FAFSA. Filing online is much faster, and we encourage you to use this method at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Choose Butler Tech as your school with the federal school code 015492. For assistance in completing the FAFSA, you may call the financial aid office at 513-645-8200.

Step 4. Receive a SAR.

If you provided an email address or filed online you will be notified through email and be able to print your Student Air Report (SAR) from the Internet. If you completed a paper FAFSA and did not provide an email address, your SAR will be mailed to you by the U.S. Department of Education.

Step 5. Review your SAR.

Butler Tech’s financial aid office will receive your SAR electronically from the U.S. Department of Education. Please schedule an appointment with the financial aid office to review the SAR, determine awards, and sign loan papers. You must have passed the WorkKeys exam and have submitted an application for enrollment before scheduling a financial aid appointment with Butler Tech.
