Professional carpenters are skilled craft persons highly in demand in the construction and repair of residential and commercial buildings. Wood or wood products is the primary material used by carpenters. Students completing this program will have many great career opportunities available for a bright future.

Skills will be developed in basic construction technologies procedures; layout work; footer and foundation walls; floor, wall, and roof framing; roofing; interior and exterior finishing; insulation; and stair construction and maintenance of related equipment.

• Preparing a materials list
• Characteristics of building materials
• Pouring footers and rough framing procedures
• Techniques to square and plumb buildings
• Procedures for installing and finishing drywall
• Installing doors, windows, cabinets, and trim
• Determining amount and type of insulation
• Exterior finishes and how they adhere to buildings
• Shingling a roof and installing gutters and vents
