Students may use various types of financial assistance to attend Butler Tech.
Butler Tech will accept private scholarships awarded to students and students may also be eligible for the following types of financial aid (select a title on the left under resources for more information):
Federal Financial Aid Grants & Loans

Federal financial aid (including Pell Grants, Stafford Loans, and Plus Loans) can be applied to all full-time programs at Butler Tech including Basic Police Academy, Fire Rescue Academy, EMT-Paramedic Academy, Medical Office Technology, Medical Assisting, Practical Nursing, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Industrial Maintenance Technology, and Industrial Welding.
Types of federal financial aid include:
Pell Grants:
Pell Grants are provided based on need. They do not have to be repaid.
Stafford Loans:
Subsidized Stafford Loans are based on need. Repayment usually begins six months after you leave school. The U.S. Department of Education pays interest while the borrower is in school during grace and deferment periods.
Unsubsidized Stafford Loans are not need-based. Repayment usually begins six months after you leave school. The borrower is responsible for interest during the life of the loan.
Plus Loans:
Plus Loans are for parents of dependent students only. They are not need-based. Repayment begins while the student is still in school. The maximum loan amount may not exceed the total cost of attendance less any other aid to be received.
Trade Adjustment Act
Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) may be available for students who have lost jobs or had hours and wages reduced because of foreign trade. Contact your employer or a local Ohio Bureau of Employment Services office.
Workforce Investment Act
Financial aid may be available from the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) program for students who qualify. Partial to total aid may be available to cover tuition, books and supplies. Students must contact their county’s Job and Family Services Workforce agency to see if they qualify.

Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation
Financial aid may be available from the local Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation (BVR) for students with physical, mental or emotional disabilities that present a handicap to employment. Partial to total aid may be available to cover tuition, books and supplies. Contact your local or area Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation office.
Veterans Education Benefits
To apply online or to get more information on eligibility for veterans educational benefits, contact the Veteran’s Administration at 1-888-442-4551 or Veterans Benefits. The veteran must complete all required forms and return them to the financial aid office for certification. Paper forms are available from the financial aid office or the Veteran’s Administration.
If you have never applied for veterans’ educational benefits you need the following:
DD-214 Discharge papers (certified copy)
VA22-1990 Application for Educational Benefits
DD-2384 Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE) for members of Selective Reserve (See your commanding officer for this document.)
If you have used veterans’ educational benefits in the past, you need:
a VA22-1995 Request for a Change of Location or Place of Training.
