DAILY LAB

The Teacher Academy program offers students the opportunity to explore the field of education and related career options. We offer an in-depth view of the teaching profession and hands-on experience working with children.

Junior students work on teaching methods: they create and present lesson plans, examine theories of child development, multiple intelligences and learning styles and explore topics such as diversity, character education, instructional technology, learning environments, instructional strategies and professionalism. Students visit college campuses, attend professional workshops, experience first-hand accounts from educators, observe in classrooms, tutor younger students, visit a variety of types of schools, teach lessons, and explore teaching as a career choice.

Senior students complete 4 or 5 internship experiences in classrooms throughout the district. Students gain hands-on experience working with children at a variety of age and ability levels. Seniors plan and carry out lessons, work one-on-one with struggling students, create instructional materials and consult with mentor teachers and staff as part of a team. Seniors complete a Praxis III portfolio as their culminating course project.
