Information Technology Tech Prep Academy is a two-year program emphasizing information technologies that provides juniors and seniors with the opportunity to gain both knowledge and real-world hands on troubleshooting experience with computer/networking \systems. The State Tech Prep Competency Profile (STPCP) course of study has been adopted as our model for the IT program. Students are given the chance to job shadow, and seniors have the opportunity to co-op during the second semester. Corporations providing internships include Kings Island, Time Warner Telecom, LexisNexis, and Clear Channel, just to name a few. Certification training includes Comptia’s A+/Net+, Cisco’s CCNA, VMWare Virtualization, Microsoft’s MCP, Novell’s CAN, the National Association of Communications Systems Engineer (NACSE), Lucent Technologies for cable/fiber mediums, networking and telecommunications topologies based upon the OSI model. Students are trained in numerous operating systems, including Unix, Linux, Windows, Novell, and Apple’s OSX. During the students’ senior year, they have the opportunity to develop an independent study based on their I.T. field of choice. In addition, students can also qualify for Post Secondary Option (PSEO). This would allow those students to attend college in the morning and then return back to D. Russel Lee Career Technology Center for lab or co-op opportunity.
