Firefighting Levels I & II: One-Year Program

*Students will complete their academics at their home school. Counselor approval is required for high school graduation.

Program Highlights

Industry Overview

Firefighter Levels I & II offers twelfth graders, in good academic standing, the opportunity to explore the vast possibilities as a first responder in this one-year, half-day program. Learn skills for vehicle extrication and structural firefighting. Prepare for fire management and training in a controlled burn atmosphere. With training and credentials from Butler Tech’s Firefighter Levels I & II, students graduate ready to enter into the recommended EMT program to become part-time or full-time firefighters.

Course Work

  • Seniors in high school only
  • Courses are one year long, half-day instruction, five days per week
  • There is no tuition cost for Firefighting I & II
  • Traditional fees for uniforms and textbooks apply. The instructor will provide pricing.
  • Students will have the opportunity to earn industry credentials
  • Upon successful completion of this program, enrollment in the Butler Tech Adult Education EMT program is recommended to become a part-time or full-time firefighter.
  • Any senior with good academic standing for graduation within Butler Tech’s Career-Technical Planning District (CTPD) may apply
  • The student’s home school counselor must sign off on the student’s graduation plan
  • Students must provide their own meals; food service is not provided
  • Students must take their academic courses online or at their current high school
  • Students must provide their own transportation to the Butler Tech campus. They may take their regular home school bus home

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Emergency Vehicles Operations Training (EVOC)
  • Hazardous Materials Operational Level Training (HAZMAT)
  • Level I & II Firefighter
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100, 200, 700, and 800
