Welding: One-Year Program

Required Materials & Supplies:

  • Students are required to purchase a welding tool kit; cost is $375

Industry Overview

The number of jobs in the welding field is expected to increase by 22% in the next six years. With this growth in demand comes a massive need for skilled welders, solderers, cutters, and brazers.

This one-year Welding Technology Program is offered through Butler Tech’s Adult Education OTC+ programming and provides juniors and seniors the opportunity to earn credentials and explore the vast possibilities in the welding industry outside of the normal high school day.

Work-based learning opportunities may be provided with local business partners. With in-depth training using the latest technologies, the creative and literal sparks will fly as students gain hands-on experience for a lucrative career. No matter how sophisticated technology becomes, welding continues to play a vital role in building and repairing, ships, cars, spacecraft, medical equipment, and thousands of other manufactured products.

Course Work

  • No tuition cost. Traditional fees for uniforms and tools apply
  • Students must take their academic courses online or at their current high school
  • Combined credentials meet the high school graduation requirement
  • The home school counselor must sign off on the student’s graduation plan
  • Students must provide their transportation and meals
  • Continuing education opportunities are available through Butler Tech’s Adult Education programming after high school graduation

Credentials

Students will train and test for National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) certifications in:

  • AWS D1.1 Structural Certifications (3-G and 4-G)
  • NCCER Core Curriculum
  • NCCER Welding Levels 1 and 2
  • OSHA 10
