Precision Machining

If you like working with your hands and have the ability to troubleshoot, design and work in a technical environment, Butler Tech Precision Machining may be the program for you. This program has a greater than 95 percent job placement rate!

Sporting equipment, automotive parts and many other things you use on a daily basis are made possible because of machine shops. As technology advances, the need for more sophisticated machinery becomes essential. The Precision Machining program provides students with the skills necessary to create this new equipment and repair older models. During the two­ year program, students will work with metals to repair and make parts for tooling and also invent, design and create metal parts with state ­of ­the art equipment.

Students cover many aspects of the industry, such as:

  • Advanced Manual Machining
  • Blueprint Reading
  • CNC Machining
  • Milling
  • Reading and Measuring Gauges
  • Surface Grinding

After graduation, many students attend college to earn degrees in the engineering field. Students also directly enter the workforce or into apprenticeship programs.

College Tech Prep

Butler Tech Precision Machining is a College Tech Prep program. It combines college­like instruction with hands­on activities to prepare students for the technical occupations of the future and to provide a pathway to an associate degree or beyond. College Tech Prep programs provide advanced skills in math, science, communication, and technologies. The College Tech Prep program combines academic and job skills at all educational levels. Courses are designed by local business, industry and labor representatives, in addition to high school teachers and college faculty.


Butler Tech Precision Machining is a full time program for high school juniors and seniors. Students will apply during their sophomore year.
