Student Showcase to Feature Magnified Giving

Update

Following multiple years of partnership between Butler Tech School of the Arts and Magnified Giving, senior dance student, Liz Guckiean, and the SOA National Technical Honor Society are taking this year’s project to the next level with hopes of making an even greater impact.

In past years, Katie Powers, SOA Math Instructor, partnered with Magnified Giving through her Probability and Statistics class. The organization is a nonprofit whose mission is to teach philanthropy to students. Mrs. Powers used it as a way to educate, inspire, and engage students in philanthropy, while also incorporating math concepts.

Inspired by these lessons, Guckiean chose to make Magnified Giving the focus of her upcoming Student Showcase with the main goals of raising additional funds for local non-profits and involving all Butler Tech high school campuses in the project.

“In the past, Magnified Giving only reached a small number of students here at Butler Tech School of the Arts,” shared Guckiean, “by expanding this project, so many more people will know and understand Magnified Giving’s amazing mission!”

Guckiean enlisted the help of the National Technical Honor Society across all four high school campuses with the goal of raising additional funds during the spring Student Showcase night. The NTHS will lead carnival games with prizes, hold a silent basket auction, and with the help of Butler Tech’s LIFE with Coffee, offer free coffee. Donations will be accepted and all proceeds will be collected electronically via a specialized Magnified Giving QR code. The funds will then be matched, up to $1,000, by Magnified Giving for the non-profits chosen by the students!

Through an established Magnified Giving process, the students complete research and choose potential local non-profits they wish to support. They facilitate site-visits and as a final step will advocate and vote for the organization they wish to receive grant funds via Magnified Giving.

Finally, the impact of the project will continue to grow in the future as Magnified Giving has agreed to give $1000 to each of the four National Technical Honor Society’s, at all high school campuses starting next year!

To support this Student Showcase and Magnified Giving, consider donating using the QR code and/or visit the carnival games, silent auction, and grab a coffee on May 5, 2022 at the School of the Arts.
