“A dream is a wish your heart makes” ~ Cinderella

The Benison Events and Coworking venue is a premier destination for weddings in downtown Hamilton! Recently to add to the magic of the events hosted at The Benison, they purchased a Cinderella-like carriage to adorn their front entry and called on Butler Tech’s Welding Technology students to assemble the carriage for display.

“A key component of our welding technology curriculum is blueprint reading. The assembly drawing of the carriage was quite challenging, but the seniors rose to the occasion and completed the task well before the deadline,” shared Shane McKinney, Welding Technology Instructor.

Butler Tech WeldingIn order to complete the task, the carriage was delivered to the D. Russel Lee welding lab in multiple boxes. The students then assembled the structure and welded any removable pieces into place and fabricated brackets so the carriage could be mounted to the sidewalk to prevent theft of the structure.

“Before we started the project, I explained to the seniors that our program is only possible through tax dollars, and this was an opportunity to use our education to support the people who support us,” explained McKinney. “I feel it’s extremely important for students to understand and appreciate where the money comes from to purchase welders, material, and supplies for their education. All in all, it was a great experience for the senior welding technology students.”
