Firefighter 1

Butler Tech has been training firefighters for more than 30 years. Our intensive courses prepare students for:

  • firefighter safety
  • physical training
  • structural firefighting
  • incident command systems
  • technical rescue team assistance
  • vehicle rescue and extrication
  • emergency vehicle operation
  • hazardous materials operations
  • other topics defined by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 1001, 2012 edition

Firefighter Level 2 Transition

This course is the second level of standards-based certification available to firefighters in Ohio and is designed to transition the student from the Firefighter I level to the advanced level of Firefighter II.

Students will participate in classroom instruction, incident report writing, flammable liquid live fires, fire ground command, evidence preservation, pre-incident survey, and equipment maintenance. An Ohio Firefighter I certification is required for admission to the course. Students have to have a certification demonstrating 16 hours of Emergency Vehicle Operations (EVOC) dated within 1 year of the Level II transition class completion.

Enrollment Requirements

  • 18 years old
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Pass criminal background check and physical exam
