The Butler Tech Bioscience Center partnered with the Ohio Dental Association to host the 2019 Give Kids A Smile Ohio Kickoff. The Give Kids A Smile program along with the Butler Tech Dental Science program provided free dental care and oral health education to local children without dental coverage.
Approximately fifty, fifth graders from the Rosa Parks Elementary School from Middletown Local School District traveled to the Butler Tech Bioscience Center in West Chester, where they received screenings, X-rays, spin brush cleanings, fluoride treatments, and sealants. Local dentists volunteered their time and will provide free follow-up care to students who are found to be in need of additional restorative care.
This is the first time the Butler Tech Bioscience Center has been chosen to host the Ohio kickoff. The annual event is part of the Give Kids A Smile program, a collaborative effort among the American Dental Association, the Ohio Dental Association and dental societies throughout the U.S.
Students in the Butler Tech Science program put their career technical education in action by assisting the dentists, sterilizing equipment, imaging, managing patient flow and teaching the students about proper oral hygiene. Give Kids A Smile is an opportunity for the Butler Tech Dental Science students and dental professionals to improve oral health literacy on a broad scale by taking this message directly to the schools and other organizations that work with children.
