Our Commitment to Safety
Creating safe learning environments and maintaining clear, timely communication with families are essential to Butler Tech’s mission of Transforming Lives.
The safety and well-being of our students, staff and visitors is our highest priority. Through comprehensive emergency preparedness planning, strong partnerships with local first responders and timely, transparent communication, Butler Tech prepares for, responds to and recovers from emergencies while keeping families informed every step of the way.
Every emergency is different, but our priorities remain the same:
- Protect students, staff and visitors.
- Support first responders.
- Communicate accurate information with families.
- Return students to learning safely.

- Campus Response Teams
- Emergency communication systems
- Regular emergency drills and staff training
- Strong partnerships with local law enforcement, fire departments and emergency management agencies
Protecting Students. Keeping Families Informed.
Emergency Response Procedures
Every emergency is different, but Butler Tech follows established emergency response procedures while working closely with local law enforcement, fire departments and emergency management agencies.
Throughout an incident, Butler Tech will provide families with confirmed information as soon as it can be safely communicated.
-
School closure may occur before or during the school day due to severe weather, utility disruptions, safety concerns or other emergency situations.
How We Communicate
Families will receive information about closures, schedule changes and next steps through Butler Tech’s official communication channels.
-
An evacuation moves students and staff away from a hazard to a safer location. Depending on the situation, this may involve relocating to another area of the building, outside the building or to an alternate site.
How We Communicate
If an evacuation requires action from families, Butler Tech will provide instructions through SchoolMessenger and other official communication channels.
-
A lockdown is used when there is a potential threat inside or immediately outside a school building. Students and staff move to secure locations while first responders assess and manage the situation.
How We Communicate
Families will receive updates through Butler Tech’s official communication channels as information becomes available and can be safely shared. We ask families not to come directly to campus unless instructed to do so.
-
Shelter-in-place is used when conditions outside the building make it safer for students and staff to remain indoors, such as during severe weather or an environmental hazard.
How We Communicate
Families will receive updates as needed through Butler Tech’s official communication channels, including any changes to the school day or dismissal procedures.
-
If students must be released from an alternate location, Butler Tech will implement its Family Reunification process.
Students will only be released to authorized emergency contacts with valid photo identification.
How We Communicate
Families will receive instructions explaining where to go, what identification to bring and what to expect throughout the reunification process. Because every student must be safely reunited with an approved adult, the process may take time. Butler Tech staff and emergency responders will work as quickly, safely and efficiently as possible.
