  • Call 513-645-8350 to schedule and pass the Fire Rescue Academy Physical Fitness Standards. Once you pass this, you will receive the medical history form to be filled out by your doctor. 
  • Use the WorkKeys Practice Tests 
  • Schedule your WorkKeys Assessment
  • Email or bring in your high school or GED diploma and/or transcripts to Lisa Carter
  • Fill out a FAFSA form using your 2018 tax information. Our school code is 015492
  • Email our Financial Aid Coordinator Denny Ewen to complete your financial paperwork.
  • Visit our LeSourdsville campus to complete your background check. Cost is $50. 
  • Secure Your Seat: Once you pass your WorkKeys Assessments, you will be given a green enrollment form. This completed form with a $200 deposit toward your tuition and passing the physical fitness assessment, secures your seat.

If you have the passion and interest to make a difference as a firefighter, Butler Tech’s Fire Rescue Academy will prepare you for this rewarding and challenging career. We offer both day and evening academics and can get you trained and ready to work in 4 to 6 months, depending on which option you choose. You’ll receive excellent instruction from experienced faculty and up to 40 hours of training in our propane-fueled fire tower at Butler Tech’s state-of-the-art Public Safety Education Complex.

The Fire Rescue Academy includes the following courses:

  • Firefighter I & II
  • Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations
  • Emergency Vehicle Operator
  • First Aid & CPR Training
  • Hazard Recognition Officer
  • Human Anatomy & Physiology I & II
  • Emergency Medical Technician
  • Fire Service Pump Operator
  • Advanced Fire Attack
  • Rope Fundamentals

What if I already have my EMT license?

If you already have a current Ohio EMT license, you may register for just the first term of Firefighter I & II if enrollment limits have not been met.  On its own, the Firefighter I & II course does not meet the required minimum 600 hours to qualify for State and Federal aid, so full payment of tuition and books/supplies will need to be paid before the first day of class.

Program Times

Full Time | 626 Hours | Day Academy Mon-Fri,  8:00 am – 5:00 pm | Evening Academy Mon-Fri, 6:00 pm – 10 pm and every other Saturday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Program Costs

Tuition $5,650 | Books/Supplies $2,439

Total $8,089

(If you are only enrolling in Firefighter I & II,  financial aid is not available. The tuition is $2,825 and books/supplies are $1,415 for a total of $4,240 that would be due by the first day of class)

Financial aid and scholarships are available to those who qualify for the full time academy.

Industry Recognized Credentials

Students who successfully complete the program will receive certifications in:

  • Ohio Firefighter Levels I & II
  • CPR & First Aid
  • EMT Certification
  • Emergency Vehicle Operation
  • Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations

Salary Statistics

2018 Median Pay (Bureau of Labor Statistics) : $49,620 per year | $23.85 per hour
