Butler Tech FFA Equine Team earned 2nd in state competition

Update

On Thursday, April 28th, 2022 the final event for the Future Farmers of America Equine Management Career Development Event was held in Columbus, Ohio. The Butler Tech FFA team finished a close 2nd in the overall scoring. Coach Tim Spoerl, seniors Abigail Roberts, Jillian Proctor, Megan Scarth, and junior Olivia Demoret as well as alternates Rhea McAninch and Brittany Paddock traveled to Columbus for this final event.

The state FFA Equine Management Career Development Event is a three-part process.

All students take online knowledge and I.D. tests in early March related to the equine science curriculum and additional resources. After taking the tests all students are eligible to compete in the state in-person Horse Judging competition in Columbus, Ohio. Approximately four hundred students competed in this event.

After the in-person competition, the online scores and judging scores are combined to create a team score of the top four individuals with two alternates. Then the top ten teams return for the final competition where team scores follow.

As the second-place team, the students are invited to compete in the American Paint Horse Junior World Show judging contest in Fort Worth, Texas this June.
