Information Technology students assisting IT Helpdesk

Update

The adage, “learning while doing,” is once again put to good use as Butler Tech Information Technology seniors begin assisting the internal IT Helpdesk for students and staff.

Based in the Media Center at D. Russel Lee, student agents are now available Monday through Friday to facilitate electronic helpdesk tickets, answer phone calls and offer face-to-face assistance to staff and other Butler Tech students.

“We mainly handle software and hardware problems,” explained Ryan Gabbard, senior in the Information Technology program. “Most common are things like keyboard fixes, screen issues, and we even had a coffee spill on a laptop that was a bit more intense.”

The students, under the direction of their IT instructors as well as staff members of the Information Technology Department at Butler Tech, say they enjoy getting to learn in a real-world setting with real consequences for the user.

“It’s exactly like any company’s IT helpdesk. We have to not only use our computer knowledge but practice customer service and a smile,” said Jayden Crihfield, also a senior in IT.
