Financial Aid
Financial aid, grants, and scholarships may be available to help cover tuition, fees, supplies, and living expenses while you complete your training.
Federal financial aid is available for eligible programs of more than 600 hours.

Understand Your Cost of Attendance
Your Cost of Attendance (COA) provides an estimate of what it may cost to complete your program. It includes direct costs, such as tuition, fees, and required supplies, as well as estimated expenses for housing, transportation, and other living costs.

Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), complete Entrance Counseling, a Master Promissory Note and Exit Counseling at studentaid.gov.

Once you’ve completed your FAFSA form or need assistance, contact us at 513-645-8200 to schedule an appointment with a Financial Aid Coordinator. Every new student is encouraged to schedule a financial aid advising appointment during enrollment.
Federal financial aid opportunities include Pell Grants, Direct Loans, and PLUS Loans.

Butler Tech students can access financial assistance through many outside agencies:
- Ohio Department of Higher Education
The Ohio Department of Higher Education has a Nurse Education Assistance Loan Program (NEALP). If you are interested, you must submit paperwork and meet deadlines with ODHE. For more information, call 1-888-833-1133 or visit www.ohiohighered.org/nealp.
- Workforce Innovation and Opportunities Act (WIOA Grant) Career Connection (YOP)
Funding options may be available from these agencies for students who qualify. Contact your local Ohio Means Jobs office to see if you qualify for the WIOA grant that can provide either partial or total financial aid to cover the cost of tuition, books, and supplies for our programs.
- Easterseals
Easterseals provides services to students 16-24 years old, and Ohio Means Jobs manages the Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) program. Partial to total aid may be available to cover tuition, books and supplies. Contact your local Easterseals office to see if you qualify.
- Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD)
Funding may be available from this local agency for students with physical, mental or emotional disabilities that present a handicap to employment. Partial to total aid may be available to cover tuition, books and supplies. Contact your local or area OOD office. Information is available at www.ood.ohio.gov.
- Students are encouraged to explore external scholarships offered by organizations outside of Butler Tech. Many of the opportunities listed below have been successfully used by past students to help cover tuition. Eligibility requirements and application processes vary by provider. Adult learners residing in the greater Hamilton, Ohio area with financial need.Technical Trades, CDL, and LPN StudentsGraduating high school SeniorParamedic Students16-26 years of age on track to enroll at vocational-technical schoolWomen born outside the U.S. - The Nurse Education Assistance Loan Program (NEALP) provides financial assistance to Ohio students enrolled for at least half-time study (or accepted for enrollment) in an approved Ohio nurse education program. NEALP provides funding for nurses who intend to serve as instructors or students who intend to serve as nurses in Ohio after graduation.Funding Type: Loan.Funding is provided by an educational surcharge on the biennial licensure renewal fee paid by all licensed LPNs and RNs.Recipient must serve as a full-time nurse in Ohio for five years to qualify for 100 percent loan cancellation.Annual award for the 2025-2026 academic year was:
- $1,002/year for LPNs; and
- $1,800/year for Diploma RNs
Eligibility Requirements
An applicant must:
- Be an Ohio resident.
- Be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident.
- Be enrolled in or be accepted for enrollment approved nurse education programs in Ohio colleges, universities, hospitals, or vocational schools.
- Not be in default or owe a refund to any Federal Financial Aid program.
- Maintain an academic record which places the student in good academic standings within the institution.
- Be enrolled at least half‐time each term, which is defined as an academic course load that is at least one‐half of the normal full‐time course load, as determined by the institution.
Deadline
Students may apply after January 1 and before July 15 of each year. Notification of acceptance or denial for NEALP funding will be sent the first week of September.

How to Use Your VA Education Benefits
To begin processing your VA Education Benefits at Butler Tech, complete the VA Checklist and submit the following documents to your financial aid contact:
- Completed VA Checklist
- DD-214
- Military Transcript
- Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Navy: Joint Services Transcript (JST)
- Air Force and Space Force: Air University Transcript
- Alternative transcript ordering: Parchment
- Certificate of Eligibility (COE)
First-Time VA Education Benefit Users
If you have never used your VA Education Benefits, you will need to:
- Apply for benefits through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
- Receive your Certificate of Eligibility (COE).
- Submit your COE and required documents to Butler Tech.
The amount of your education benefits is determined by your length of military service and your VA benefit chapter listed on your Certificate of Eligibility.
If you plan to use federal financial aid in addition to your VA benefits, you should also complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Returning VA Education Benefit Users
If you have previously used your VA Education Benefits at another institution, complete the:
- VA Form 22-1995 – Request for Change of Program or Place of Training
Selective Reserve Students
If you are using Selective Reserve (Chapter 1606) benefits, you will also need to submit:
- DD Form 2384 – Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE)
Your commanding officer can assist you with obtaining this form.
Payment Information
How your tuition is paid depends on your VA benefit chapter.
Chapter 33 (Post-9/11 GI Bill®)
Tuition is paid directly to Butler Tech by the Department of Veterans Affairs. If you provide your Certificate of Eligibility before classes begin, you may be able to start your program without making full tuition payment upfront.
Veteran Readiness & Employment (VR&E)
Tuition is paid directly to Butler Tech. Before classes begin, Butler Tech must receive a Purchase Order (PO) from your VR&E counselor.
All Other VA Benefit Chapters
For all other benefit chapters, the VA pays benefits directly to the student. Students are responsible for paying Butler Tech and may:
- Pay out of pocket, or
- Apply for federal financial aid by completing the FAFSA, if eligible.
